The effective and unique, multi-disciplinary nature of BioEco’s course offering, with a genuinely broad curriculum allows students to leave as well-rounded, future leaders, in their respective fields.
Despite the academy’s relative infancy, BioEco already features in ShanghaiRanking’s list of top academic institutions globally. In part, this is down to the effective and unique, multi-disciplinary nature of BioEco’s course offering, with a genuinely broad curriculum that allows students to leave as well-rounded, future leaders, in their respective fields.
With a keen eye on the challenges of the future, BioEco’s renewable energy academy courses are both academically stringent and practically applicable in the workplaces of the future. Benefiting from the academy’s long-standing relationships with teaching providers, institutions, and research centres, BioEco offers an unmatched and diverse curriculum. This includes unique study opportunities, such as:
- The BioTechEco, an International Master’s degree over two years featuring both theoretical and practical courses.
- The International Scientific Competition, bringing together teams to focus on the core scientific issues impacting future development.
- Summer Schools: one-week, in-person, training courses for master’s and doctoral students to develop their understanding of the circular economy through life-cycle analysis and the transformation of renewable resources.
Additionally, BioEco students benefit from access to regular academic conferences, featuring some of the brightest minds in research and education.
Another unique facet of BioEco’s offering is the comprehensive professional training for those looking to further their careers – either in academia or in practical, industry-focused, roles. The online renewable energy academy takes advantage of BioEco’s access to wide-ranging renewable energy facilities in this region to provide participants with the opportunity to retrain or refine their skills.
Biochemistry schools that look to the future
BioEco graduate school holds a unique position among biochemistry schools, also being a sustainable development academy. BioEco operates in a number of academic fields including alongside biochemistry that, together, allows for students to emerge truly expert in the ever-more-vital circular economy. In addition to in-depth courses in renewable engineering and biotechnology, BioEco boast a roster of leading academics and teachers in the field of biochemistry.
Leveraging the advantages of specialist training and powerful collaborations with partner institutes, BioEco is among the biochemistry schools pioneering a strong academic offering that challenges and moulds students. The academic rigour of the biochemistry school is simply one part of what makes the course so effective. Opportunities to engage more broadly across the circular economy curriculum is part of this – but also the unique student experience that Toulouse offers.
More than simply an academic institution, BioEco benefits greatly from close ties with the Federal University of Toulouse. A city with longstanding history of research and education, Toulouse is an internationally established destination for students. Those participating in BioEco courses can take advantage of the Toul’Box – a support package ensuring a seamless arrival and settling-in experience, including airport pickups, accommodation support, as well as assistance with day-to-day necessities such as setting up a bank account.
A regional heritage of biotech schools and research
Host to numerous biotech schools and cutting-edge laboratories, one cannot deny Toulouse’s status as the national centre for biotechnology education. With vast reserves of expertise in biology, biotechnology, chemical and biochemical engineering, mathematics, and economics, acting in line with global concerns – and to take advantage of this academic capacity – the Federal University of Toulouse has identified sustainability, underpinned by the circular economy model, as a research priority.
BioEco, with a unique and dynamic academic offering, has been designed to develop the talent required to achieve these regional targets and as well as support the wide-reaching Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.
Thanks to strong regional connections, BioEco’s biotech school takes advantage of relationships with a number of Toulouse’s biotechnology research hubs, allowing for unique learner experiences and opportunities. A truly collaborative program of study, alongside the likes of INSA Toulouse, Toulouse INP, and IMT Mines Albi, BioEco delivers in-depth training and qualifications to those looking to develop their expertise in biotech and related studies.
BioEco is a forward-thinking institution, with an academic offering that serves those looking to develop their careers in biotechnology. The 5-year course (Master 1/Master 2/PhD) delivered by BioEco is truly transdisciplinary and courses have been forensically crafted to incorporate chemical and biochemical engineering alongside integral environmental and economic training to ensure students emerge with a genuinely holistic understanding of this complex and fast-developing space.
BioEco students, able to take advantage of a range of study options, leave as highly sought-after candidates for leading organisations in the sector. Equally, individuals depart with the knowledge and expertise to carve their own path in this critical area of development – where top talent and emerging academic perspectives are undoubtedly necessary to counter significant societal and environmental challenges.
Leadership and governance – expertise from the top down
The circular economy academy of BioEco benefits from exceptional leadership and expertise.
Carole Molina-Jouve and Calude Maranges act as co-ordinators for BioEco.
Carolina Molina-Jouve, a leading academic in engineering, is a professor at the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Toulouse and a former Director of the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI). While at TBI her research focused on microbiological engineering and its practical application in the fields of renewables, biotech, and health.
Claude Maranges became a professor at INSA Toulouse after completing a PhD in microbiology, and now coordinates of the Biotechnology School for a Biosourced Economy.
The entirety of the teaching staff at BioEco are proven experts, both in their academic specialisms, but also with regard to the quality of their teaching. This is an organisation that is driven by the quality of its personnel.
